Heh, you're not reading into it enough.

If I were JP, which is to say, writing a cliche story, I would have Fang appear to die, then have this Dylan person show up, and have max start to fall for him because Dylan was engineered for that purpose. Then, you re-introduce Fang, and surprise, Dylan is evil. So Max (or fang) beats him up and then they clobber his creator. End of problem, end of story.

Of course Fang isn't really going to die, that's pretty obvious, but I don't know if Dylan will be evil....He might actually join the flock, just how that works has yet to be decided.
But yeah, when I created this forum I'd just found out about Dylan, and had to somehow fill the forum box, so I filled it with meaningless crap. I was, shall we say, hyper when I found out.

Moving on though, I very much like your quick analysis of a cliched story, and that's probably going to happen, sadly. I'd have thought JP branched out a little more....oh well.

the only similarities in toughs 2 books are the characters of the same name who escape from a rather despicable school. Other than that they are unrelated.

Those are the only similarities theres more then just 2.

The main characters are all human/bird hybrid children.

The children all were previously subjected to cruel experiments and treatment at a building referred to as the "School".

The children all had human mothers and were kidnapped from them at birth.

One of the children is blind ( Icarus"Ic" in The Lake House, Iggy, sometimes called "Ig", in "Maximum Ride").

The main character's name is Max, which is short for Maximum.

Max is the oldest in their flock.

The two eldest children (Max and Ozymandias in "The Lake House" and Max and Fang in "Maximum Ride") have a relationship.

The group of winged children call themselves "The Flock".

There are 6 members of the flock.

Exactly, so it is possible for Fang to die. Not that I want him to, it's just a possibility.

That's technically what we've been talking about. When the Wind Blows and The Lake House are part of the same storyline. The Lake House is the sequel to When the Wind Blows. So.... If Oz died then so can Fang.

While that story line is exciting and makes sense, there are probably going to be a few twists to it, seeing as this is James Patterson. For instance, as RawrFangMonster said, Dylan might not be evil! Heck, he might not even like Max! Personally I would enjoy a story line where he was neither evil nor a "perfect other half" (because "perfect" boyfrineds/girlfriends are overrated and don't exist).
